Slam Transport, a Coventry-based company, is excited to announce the acquisition of 10 new Volvo FH with I-Save 4×2 tractor units. This marks the first significant purchase of Volvo vehicles in their fleet of 225 trucks in over six years. The new units will support the company’s business growth and enhance operational efficiency.
Slam Transport chose the FH with I-Save after experiencing great fuel economy and receiving positive feedback from drivers regarding a demonstrator provided by Rory Kelly from Volvo Truck and Bus Centre East Anglia.
The new trucks are equipped with Volvo’s D13TC Euro-6 Step D engine, rated at 460 hp, featuring turbo-compounding technology. This allows for driving at lower revs and higher gears for extended periods, contributing to a quieter and more fuel-efficient journey.
Danny Gould, Transport Manager and a partner at Slam Transport, states: “Our priorities when selecting new trucks are safety, reliability, and fuel efficiency. The Volvo ticked all the boxes, and the FH has proven to be a hugely popular choice among our drivers.”
The new trucks are averaging 12.6 mpg, an impressive start considering the company’s main operation involves transporting parcels between Amazon e-fulfilment centers, which requires lightweight payloads and extremely tight delivery deadlines.
Each of the new FHs features a Globetrotter sleeper cab, equipped with a lower fixed bunk, semi-firm pocket sprung mattress, luxury sleeper control panel, extensive storage options, a 33-litre fridge/freezer, and stylish black and red trimmed driver and passenger seats.
Gould adds: “The support we’ve received from Volvo Trucks at every stage has been superb, from the initial inquiry to quickly getting our drivers up to speed with the new I-Save technology. Fuelwatch Manager Andrew Wright has been fantastic in helping our drivers unlock the full capability of the new trucks and achieve impressive fuel scores in a short period of time.”
Slam Transport is closely monitoring the performance of the new vehicles using Volvo Connect, which offers a range of digital and connected services through one user-friendly portal.
The new fleet has been financed through Volvo Financial Services and is backed by a Volvo Gold Contract, the manufacturer’s highest service contract tier. This ensures that all routine maintenance will be conducted by Volvo Truck and Bus Centre East Anglia, located just seven miles from Slam Transport’s base.
Slam Transport looks forward to how the new fleet will contribute to further growth and success in the future.
