Slam Transport Pays Tribute to Local Heroes with New Volvos

Slam Transport, the Coventry-based logistics company, has proudly introduced 10 Volvo FH with I-Save 4×2 tractor units to its fleet, each named after local heroes. This initiative reflects the company’s commitment to honoring individuals who have made significant contributions to the community.

Recognizing the importance of local heroes, Slam Transport has named the new trucks after various individuals from Balsall Common. Among them is Mikey Akers, who has verbal dyspraxia and has raised £11,000 for the Mikey’s Wish organization to assist others in need. Other honorees include fallen soldier James Mundy, World War II spitfire pilot Leslie Lunn, and Isabella Harlor, who along with her team, produced 50,000 masks for NHS staff.

Danny Gould, Logistics Manager at Slam Transport, expressed the company’s gratitude: “There are far more good people out there than bad, and this is our small way to say thank you for all they do.”

The introduction of these Volvos marks a significant addition to Slam Transport’s existing fleet of 225 vehicles. As the company experiences unprecedented demand, Gould noted, “We are the busiest we have ever been. The challenge is always the same—finding good drivers who not only represent us but also the companies we haul for.”

This year alone, Slam Transport has added around 70 new trucks and 150 trailers to its fleet, with plans for further expansion in early 2021. Acknowledging the challenges posed by recent events, Gould emphasized the dedication of their staff, stating, “Our staff have been heroes to keep on working against all the issues that have been thrown at them.”

Slam Transport has also taken measures to ensure the safety of its employees, including additional cleaning protocols for driver cabs and maintaining social distancing within the office and warehouse.

The logistics sector has played a crucial role in sustaining the UK economy throughout 2020, providing essential services such as keeping supermarket shelves stocked and delivering vital PPE to NHS facilities. Gould believes the dedication of logistics professionals needs to be recognized, calling for increased respect and support for drivers from the government and the public.
